2022 Canadian British Parliamentary Debate Nationals Championships
Last month we provided you exciting updates about the BP Provincial tournaments that occurred, and in the middle of November, we saw the 2022 British Parliamentary National Championships take place in Montreal, QC, where only the best of the best competed in this debate style.
Due to the rigorous qualifying procedure, the competition was extraordinarily tough, and yet despite that, FDT students still managed to excel! The tournament was split into two categories, a Senior and Junior Division.
In the senior division, there were only ten slots for teams to qualify to go compete in the United Kingdom. We are very happy to announce that FDT will be sending seven speakers, including Angela Lu, Meredith Wang, Barry Gu, Summit Kawakami, Ryan Li, Ann Wang, Andy Yu and Jin Zhou. We wish them the very best of luck as they continue in this exciting journey and represent Canada.
The junior division was equally as competitive, but we are happy to announce that Jade Wang and Bonnie Li have prevailed, and will also be travelling to the United Kingdom to compete at prestigious tournaments in the BP style.
We also wish to congratulate the following speakers on their impressive speaking placements.

2022 Senior Public Speaking Provincials
The 2022 Senior Public Speaking Provincials for British Columbia took place on the weekend of the 25th of November, and FDT notched some very impressive accomplishments. In the tournament, there were four categories of speech: persuasive, interpretative reading, debate, and impromptu. We are very happy to announce that FDT students represented themselves admirably in each of these categories.
This tournament has added significance due to the fact that it is a qualifying tournament for Speech Nationals, and we are incredibly proud to announce that three FDT students have qualified, including Enya Fang who placed first, Jaiden Ahuja who placed second, and Rohan Singh who placed sixth! We wish them the very best of luck as they advance to Nationals!
Below you will find a full breakdown of our top results in this tournament. Please join us in congratulating all the following students for their successes.

Western Fall 2022
The Western Fall 2022 was an online tournament that took place early on in November, and one where FDT students performed admirably. This was a giant tournament, which featured over 310 debaters from across Canada, and as you can imagine, it was quite competitive!
Despite the tough opposition that was offered, FDT students performed incredibly with multiple teams making it into the elimination rounds!
In the senior category, elimination rounds began at the quarterfinals. We had a total of six students break into these rounds, of which, Laiba Nasir finished as a quarterfinalist, Leo Zhu, Ann Wang, and Andy Yu finished as semifinalists, and Jeanette Pan and Reyhan Habib finished as finalists.
In the junior category, elimination rounds began at the semi-final stage, and we had one student, Miranda Sun, make it all the way to the finals, where she ended up as a finalist.
FDT also noted some incredible speaking accomplishments in this tournament, and we could not be prouder of our students, and their performances!
