Provincials 2022 Championship
The BC British Parliamentary Provincials 2022 Championship took place on the weekend of October 14th, and our students could not have been more impressive! As you may know, this tournament leads to British Parliamentary Nationals, which will take place in Montreal later in November, so success is imperative here in order to qualify!
Team Awards
We are very pleased to announce that FDT has four qualifying teams from the Senior category, and we will be proudly sending Angela Lu, Meredith Wang, Kennedy Kopke, Jeanette Pan, Eva Wang, Emily Zhao, and Sissi Ho to Montreal! We had one qualifying team in the junior category, and will also be sending Bonnie Li to compete in Nationals!
Our success doesn’t end there! This tournament featured a final round to determine the champions of each category! In the Senior category, Kennedy Kopke and Jeanette Pan reigned supreme, while Meredith Wang, Angela Lu, Emily Zhao, and Eva Wang were finalists. In the junior category, Bonnie Li was declared champion!

To add onto our success, FDT students scored impressive speaking placements in both categories. Alberta Senior British Parliamentary
Provincials 2022 Championship
Some of FDT’s Alberta based students participated in the Alberta Senior British Parliamentary Provincials 2022 Championship. This tournament is merely one stage on the journey to qualify for British Parliamentary Nationals, so success is imperative! We are pleased to announce that FDT will be proudly sending Summit Kawakami, Barry Gu, Jinjou Wang, and Neil He to represent us at Nationals in Montreal later in November.

UBC Fall High School Tournament 2022
The UBC Fall High School Tournament 2022 was an in-person tournament that took place on the weekend of October 28th, and FDT students were triumphant in all four categories of debate! FDT’s office members were present on both days to support the students and help commemorate the return of local in-person debate tournaments.
Senior Awards
The Senior division featured a traditional elimination series starting from semi-finals. FDT is proud to announce that Ann Wang, Emily Cui, Audrey Chan, Leo Zhu, and Aryan Singh were semi-finalists. Further, Hannah Choi, Henry Luo, Ziya Merchant, Emily Zhao, and Eva Wang were finalists. But we truly wish to highlight Michelle Liu, who after seven rounds of debate, managed to complete her triumphant run, winning every single debate round that she participated in, and ultimately being named Senior Champion!

International Independent Schools’
Public Speaking Competition
The International Independent Schools’ Public Speaking Competition also took place on the weekend of the 21st of October, and FDT could not be prouder of our students. Among our accomplishments, we are incredibly pleased to highlight Jaiden Ahuja, who was named not only as the Top Canadian Speaker, but the Top Overall Speaker in the tournament! We also wish to highlight Zachary Weinberg’s success as being named 8th Overall Speaker! Both Jaiden and Zachary have qualified to Worlds!

McGill High School Debating Championship 2022
Featuring a triumphant return to in-person Canadian tournaments, FDT sent a number of students to the McGill High School Debating Championship 2022. Accompanied by Behbod Negahban, students travelled to Montreal, Quebec during the weekend of October 21st. This is an incredibly competitive tournament, and despite the pressure and high-quality competition offered by the other teams, our speakers were successful!
In the Senior category, Jin Zhou made it all the way to the Finals, where he ended his run as a finalist, while in the Junior category, both Eric Su and Eric Li ended up as finalists!

The Meadowridge School Fall 2022 Debate Tournament (MSDT Fall 2022) took place on the weekend of October 21st, and FDT students truly excelled! The tournament was divided into a Junior and Senior category, and FDT students won both!
