MATIN NARIMANI
Instructor
Matin is a Biomedical Engineering graduate from the University of British Columbia. Engineering taught him that good design always starts with people, understanding what they need, what they value, and what matters to them. He brings that same person-centered lens to debate, where constructing arguments that actually resonate means deeply engaging with the actors, stakeholders, and values at the heart of any motion.
Matin began competing in debate and trivia in high school, placing at high school invitationals and earning a Reach for the Top medal. He founded the University Transition Club’s debate program, coaching students with no prior experience to top-3 finishes at provincial tournaments. At UBC, he went on to place as a Top 2 Novice Speaker and Team at the Hugill Alberta Debate Championship, as well as achieving novice breaks at the Zagreb and Vienna Invitational tournaments.
Matin is passionate about working with debaters at all levels and from all backgrounds. He brings particular insight on technical and science-adjacent motions, and is committed to helping students build the confidence to engage with complex ideas, find their voice, and think on their feet. Outside of debate, you’ll find him on the basketball court, the ski slopes, or somewhere on the other side of the world!
