Last week, FDT capped off its best ever year with a very unique celebration. Instead of gathering in person with a lavish dinner and engaging performances, we convened online via Zoom.
Although, the venue wasn\’t ideal the Gala was nevertheless moving and a great commemoration of our achievements this year. Highlights include a wonderful speech by one of FDT\’s top graduating students, Kelly Ho on the lessons debate taught her as well as recognizing some of the highlights of our year. In particular we announced the winners of the coveted Student of the Year award. This year the Student of the Year Award went to….

Novice: Isabella Park

Senior: Emily Ni
We also recognized the record number of students FDT qualified to the World Individual Debate and Public Speaking Championships. The students who joined Team Canada for Speech in 2020, were Joyce Chen, Nora Zhu, Nicholas Viegas, Emily Ni, Vivian Gu, and Jena Yue.
Finally, we ended the evening with some bittersweet news. After coaching debate for over a decade, FDT\’s founder and CEO Frankie Cena, will next year be taking step back from FDT to pursue his dream in the entertainment industry. Frankie will still be CEO of FDT and will be an integral part of our academy. We wish him the best of luck in his future in entertainment!
