Mock Trial

Learn about legal procedures.
A mock trial is a simulation or enactment of a judicial proceeding. Mock trials provide students with knowledge of the judicial system, legal process, and courtroom procedures. Mock trials help to: develop students’ questioning skills, critical thinking, and oratory skills; demonstrate the roles of various actors in the legal system; and provide the class with exposure to legal resource people, such as judges, attorneys, and law school students. Mock trials may be based on historical events, cases of contemporary interest, school events, or hypothetical situations and fact patterns. Mock Trial teaches essential skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, and the art of forming a persuasive, cohesive argument.

Group Classes
FDT’s Mock Trial group classes give students the opportunity to step into the role of lawyers and witnesses, applying critical thinking, public speaking, and argumentation skills in a realistic courtroom setting. Classes combine structured instruction, case analysis, skill-building exercises, and live trial simulations where students practice examinations, objections, and closing arguments. Our curriculum focuses on developing clarity, confidence, and strategic thinking, while exposing students to legal concepts and real-world case scenarios. Feedback from our experienced coaches is central to helping students refine their performance and prepare for competitive mock trial events.
Each class typically includes 3 to 30 students, with one instructor for every 4 to 6 students to ensure personalized attention. Classes run for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
