Ethics Olympiad

Learn about moral dilemmas.
Ethics Bowl competitions involve tackling thought-provoking and complex moral dilemmas in a structured and constructive format. Students will tackle a range of ethical scenarios, developing a nuanced understanding of various perspectives and crafting well-reasoned arguments. They will need to engage in constructive dialogue with another team, and answer questions about their position from a panel of judges. Unlike traditional debate formats, Ethics Bowls are not directly adversarial and do not force competitors to defend randomly assigned positions. Instead, students engage in thoughtful and constructive dialogue, encouraging collaborative exploration of moral and social issues.
The program offers participants an opportunity to learn about moral philosophy, develop their public speaking skills, and engage with some of the most important questions in life. The cases students deal with are engaging, and help develop analytic and critical thinking skills. Ethical reasoning is also becoming an increasingly important and sought-after skill for the leaders of tomorrow, making Ethics Bowl a good choice for students interested in developing their leadership skills.

Group Classes
FDT’s Ethics Olympiad group classes provide students with the opportunity to engage in thoughtful discussions and analyses of real-world ethical dilemmas. Students learn to evaluate complex issues from multiple perspectives, developing critical thinking, collaborative dialogue, and clear communication skills. Classes combine structured instruction, case analysis, small-group discussions, and moderated presentations, where students work together to explore ethical questions rather than compete to “win” an argument. Our curriculum emphasizes reasoning, open-mindedness, and respectful discourse, while exposing students to philosophy, current events, and real-life decision-making scenarios. Feedback from our experienced coaches is central to helping students deepen their thinking and articulate ideas with clarity and confidence.
Each class typically includes 3 to 30 students, with one instructor for every 4 to 6 students to ensure personalized attention. Classes run for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
